Shape recognition worksheets
Circle or color the circles, squares, triangles and rectangles hidden in each row.
Count squares for area, count edges for perimeter, or find a missing side of a rectangle or L shape.
Shapes are drawn on a unit-square grid, to scale. Students count the squares inside for the area and the unit lengths around the outside for the perimeter. Choose rectangles, or L shapes and U shapes made by joining rectangles, and ask for the area, the perimeter or both.
The missing side version gives a rectangle with its area or perimeter and one side, or an L shape with some sides labeled, and asks for the side marked with a question mark. Pictures are drawn to scale, and units are centimeters, inches, meters or feet.
