Missing number worksheets
Equations with one empty box, for addition, subtraction, multiplication, division or a mix.
Evaluate expressions by replacing a letter with a number, or match a phrase to the expression it describes.
In evaluate mode each problem gives an expression such as 3n + 5 and a value for the letter, and students work out the value. Choose one-step expressions, two-step expressions (including brackets) or expressions with squares. The values are chosen so every answer is a whole number.
In write mode students read a phrase such as "5 less than n" and circle the expression that matches. The wrong choices are the usual mistakes: the numbers in the wrong order, the wrong operation, or a missing bracket. Each wrong choice has a different value from the right one.
