Is it a solution?

Substitute a number into an equation or inequality, find each side, and decide whether it is a solution.

About this worksheet

Each problem gives an equation or an inequality and a value for x. Students work out the left side and the right side, then circle Yes or No. About half of the values are solutions, and the others are close misses, including the boundary value of a strict inequality.

Writing both sides first shows exactly why a value works or does not. The answer key gives both sides and rings the right answer.
