Shape and color patterns

Continue AB, AAB, ABB, ABC and AABB patterns of colored shapes by coloring or circling what comes next.

About this worksheet

Each pattern is a row of shapes that repeats: AB, AAB, ABB, ABC or AABB. Children either color in the empty shapes to finish the pattern, or circle the shape that comes next from three choices. The pattern can change by color, by shape, or by both together.

The black and white edition uses shading instead of color: dark, plain, striped and criss-cross, so the pattern means exactly the same thing. The wrong choices are close to the right one, for example the right shape in the wrong color.

Printing

US Letter or A4, portrait: choose your paper size above. Print at 100 percent (actual size). Use "Black and white" for the copier, or "Color" for display pages and mini books.
