Shape recognition worksheets
Circle or color the circles, squares, triangles and rectangles hidden in each row.
Count the sides and vertices (corners) of triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons, hexagons and more.
Each row shows a shape and two answer boxes, one for the number of sides and one for the number of vertices. The shapes are drawn in different proportions and turns, so students count what is there instead of remembering a picture.
Choose five basic shapes or nine (with the parallelogram, trapezoid, kite and octagon), print the shape names or leave them off, and ask for sides, vertices or both. Because every shape here is a closed polygon, the number of sides always equals the number of vertices, which makes a good thing to notice.
