Two-step word problems

About this worksheet

Each story needs two calculations before the answer. Choose stories that add and subtract, stories that multiply first and then add or subtract, stories with division, or a mix of all three. Keep the numbers within 100 or let them reach 1,000 where the story allows.

The worked example shows each step in order. Every answer is a whole number, and there are twelve different story patterns for each kind, so a page never reads as the same story repeated. Choose a theme to set the stories in a bakery, a garden, space and more, with names, foods, places and celebrations from many cultures.

US Letter or A4, portrait: choose your paper size above. Print at 100 percent (actual size). Use "Black and white" for the copier, or "Color" for display pages and mini books.
