Input-output tables and ratio tables

Complete In and Out tables from a rule, work backwards, find the rule, or fill in simple ratio tables.

About this worksheet

Each table has an In row and an Out row and follows one rule, such as adding 7, multiplying by 4, or multiplying by 3 and then subtracting 2. Choose whether students fill in the Out row, the In row, a mix of both, or write the rule. The In numbers go up in order, which makes it easy to see how the Out numbers change from one column to the next.

Switch to ratio tables to name the rows, for example boxes and pencils, and state the rule as "Each box has 4 pencils". Every column has the same ratio, which is the first step towards seeing a ratio as an input-output rule. Ratio tables always multiply.
